Stream
Closed streams, for comparison (5)

Ontario's only open OINP stream since July 2026. It needs a qualifying job offer in any NOC occupation.

01

Employment & labour market

max 72
NOC TEER category

The 2nd digit of the job offer's 5-digit NOC code.

How this is scored

TEER (Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities) ranks how much training an occupation usually needs. It is prepopulated from the job offer, or from your practice if you are a self-employed physician.

Set by the job offer Only a job offer in a higher-TEER occupation changes this.

NOC broad occupational category

The 1st digit of the job offer's NOC code.

How this is scored

Ontario weights occupations by labour need. Health (3) scores highest, then trades and transport (7), then natural and applied sciences (2). The category is prepopulated from the job offer.

Set by the job offer Only a job offer in a different occupational category changes this.

Hourly wage in the job offer

For salaried offers, divide the annual salary by the yearly hours.

How this is scored

The wage the employer entered for the approved position. It is prepopulated from the job offer and is not scored for self-employed physicians.

Set by the job offer A higher offered wage (a raise written into the offer, or a new offer) raises this.

Ontario work experience

Full-time months in the job-offer position. If under 6, total Ontario work counts instead.

How this is scored

If you have at least 6 months full-time in the job-offer position, those months score up to 18. Otherwise, full-time (or part-time equivalent) work anywhere in Ontario scores up to 12.

Improves with time Keep working in the job-offer position. Each threshold (6, 13, 25 months) adds points.

Canadian earnings history

Your highest year on a CRA Notice of Assessment from the last 5 years.

How this is scored

Based on total income on a Notice of Assessment issued by the Canada Revenue Agency in the last 5 years. Only your best single year counts.

You can improve this A tax year with higher earnings counts once its Notice of Assessment is issued.

Legal status in Canada

The permit must give you legal status when you register.

How this is scored

A valid work permit scores highest, a study permit scores half. Visitor status or no status scores 0.

You can improve this Holding a valid work permit (for example a post-graduation work permit) gives the full 10.

02

Education

max 20
Highest level of education

A Canadian credential, or an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) for foreign study.

How this is scored

Your single highest completed credential. Foreign credentials need an ECA. A bachelor's and a graduate diploma both score 6. A doctorate or a professional health degree scores 10.

You can improve this Completing a higher credential, or getting an ECA for a foreign degree you have not yet claimed.

Canadian education credentials

Post-secondary, at least 1 year full-time, from an eligible Canadian institution.

How this is scored

Counts separate Canadian post-secondary credentials that each took at least one year of full-time study. Two or more score double.

You can improve this Completing a second eligible Canadian credential of at least one year doubles this.

03

Language

max 25
Official language ability

Your lowest CLB across reading, writing, listening and speaking.

How this is scored

From an approved English or French test (no Academic or One Skill Retake tests). Your weakest skill sets the level. With both an English and a French test, the higher result counts.

You can improve this Retake the test and lift your weakest skill. The lowest band is what counts.

Knowledge of official languages

Two languages needs CLB 6 or higher in all 4 skills on both an English and a French test.

How this is scored

Everyone with one tested official language gets 5. Proving both English and French at CLB 6+ gets 10.

You can improve this Pass a test in your second official language at CLB 6 or higher in every skill.

04

Regionalization

max 15
Work location

Where the job-offer position is located (physicians: OHIP practice address).

How this is scored

Ontario favours jobs outside Toronto. Northern Ontario includes Sudbury, Thunder Bay and Muskoka. Eastern includes Ottawa and Kingston. Central includes Waterloo, Guelph and Simcoe. Southwestern includes Hamilton, London, Windsor and Niagara. The GTA band covers Durham, Halton, Peel and York.

Set by the job offer Only a job offer (or practice) in a different region changes this.
